Talent competitions – Pre-Teen feedback
Abby Murphy – Very confident and committed performance. Next up for Abby is really trying to connect to the emotion of the song – click here for more information on emotionally connecting to the song. Powerful projection but watch your mic control – click here for tips on having good microphone technique. Great vocal technique. Very musical theatre – if you’re looking for a theatre career keep doing what you’re doing. Great confidence and ability. Very impressive start to the show.
Aimee Lea – Lovely vocal and nicely sung but there was a lot of attention given to the performance on the keys, so perhaps with a bit more practise on the keys it’ll become second nature and seem a little more comfortable. You struggled to engage with your audience as you were looking down throughout to concentrate on playing the keys. Click here to get advice on engaging with your audience.
Alexandra Maks – Impressive costume – it really added to the performance and was perfect for the song choice. Powerful projection but watch the mic control. Click here for tips on having good microphone technique. Find your own voice – not the semi-classical vocals that you imposed on it. Think your voice will develop with age.
Amy Marsden – Great to see you have the confidence to do your own song. Song was decent and has potential – it was catchy and had a good hook. You need to take care with your tuning as you were a little flat throughout. Very poor backing track – could not hear the pitch of the track so your singing suffered. Bonita Belles – Awesome choreography and you had tonnes of energy. I loved the rap addition to the song. Just take care not to be too shouty on the mic and control the vocals throughout. Heaps of ability. Great work ethic. Now get some original material and you’ll be on your way to stardom. Click here for advice on songwriting. Future girl pop group.
Dami – Good song choice, although it’s a tough one to sing! Just take care with your tuning – Click here for advice on how singing lessons can assist you in being even better. Click here for more helpful tips on performing on stage as you would have benefitted from a bit more movement. Nice effort, think the voice will develop with maturity.
Eliza Culley – Good strong vocal, confidence and delivery. Lovely rasp to your vocal and I liked you tried to make the song your own, but you shouldn’t push the American accent so much as it doesn’t flatter your tone. Your backing track was a bit plinky-plonky. Would have liked to have seen you take the mic off and use that stage more as visually it became a little tired towards the end. Click here for tips on how to give a good performance. Now to move to the next level, work on creating an image that’s personal to you and makes you stand out. Click here for advice on creating an image as an act.
Eliza Mackenzie – You sang it really well and with passion, but song choice is very important and sometimes doing a ballad does kill the ability to be a little more individual. Click here for advice on choosing a song. You have a very strong voice – perhaps too strong even as you lost the softer aspects of the song. Felt like we were being sang ‘at’ rather than ‘to’. Click here for advice for singing with emotion.
Ellie Grace Foxon – Different song choice but perhaps you could have put a modern twist on it, perhaps adding a bit of electro maybe and making it your own. Click here for advice on singing a creative cover. Really nice voice. You performed well, using the stage and engaging with the audience. The image felt like it wasn’t ‘you’. Click here for advice on creating an image as an act.
Emily Williams – Lovely voice with a great feel and you gave a natural performance. Get to work on original material now! Click here for advice on songwriting. Nice to see you engaged the audience.
Henry Gallagher – As always Henry is very lively and fun. Huge personality, but make sure that doesn’t become more of a focus than your vocal ability. Take care with your mic control – click here for tips on having good microphone technique. Would be great to see originality now! Click here for advice on singing a creative cover and click here for advice on songwriting.
Issy BB – Great song choice. What a voice. You had loads of attitude and soul. Remember to work the stage! Click here for advice for working the stage. Remember to be committed from the start and grow as the performance goes on as you did. It felt like a nervy start that blossomed with your booming voice taking over.
Izzy F – Huge potential here – quirky and cool but the track needs work! Click here for advice on songwriting. Try and remain focused on conveying the emotion in the song, as it looked like you were concentrating too much on the reactions in the audience. Click here for more information on emotionally connecting to the song. There’s a little bit of Kate Bush in your vocal and you have the talent to do what you want in music if you have the determination.
Talent competitions – Pre-Teen feedback
Jahna Lucero – Good energy. You gave a committed performance and the rap section was the best part of the performance, but watch your diction. You also seemed to get out of breathe which affected your projection and tuning. Work on getting as warm a tone in your upper range as you have in your lower range. Click here for advice on how singing lessons can assist you in being even better.
Jake – You are insane for 10! You already have a grasp on using expression and dynamics to deliver a performance – click here for advice on how to keep that up! Vocal control is exceptional. Make sure you stay this far ahead of your competition as you grow up. One to watch! Please keep doing what you’re doing.
Jay Casey – Confident performance and committed. At this stage you could fit into a young boy band as you have a good look and style that would compliment any boy band. It would be good to see you work on originality. Click here for advice on singing a creative cover.
Josh – Good song choice which helped make a really good impression from the start. Perhaps Josh should have mashed the song up with one of his own but either way Josh has proved himself to be a very talented lad. Strong voice.Would have liked to have seen more in the performance – click here to get advice on engaging with your audience.
Lauren Murray – Strong vocal but work on finding the emotion in the softer parts too. Click here for more information on emotionally connecting to the song. Keep going, you have potential. You need work more on originality. Click here for advice on singing a creative cover.
Liberty Grant – Nice to see Liberty to do something different and she demonstrated she has a crisp and powerful vocal for someone so small. You gave a natural performance. Now work on original material, or covers that you’ve changed yourself. Click here for advice on songwriting and click here for advice on singing a creative cover.
Livvy K – Liked the dancers and you could see the effort in perfecting the routine, however I’m not sure they fitted the track you picked. Click here for advice on choosing the right song. However, your vocals need a little work to be even better as they need strengthening. Click here for advice on how singing lessons can assist you in being even better. Awesome look!
Mia Paris – Needed a bit more commitment in the performance which will come. It’s a song choice that demands a lot of energy in the dance routine and you needed to give that more attention. Click here for advice for working the stage. You looked quite nervous too, so click here for advice on having stage confidence as a singer.
Mini Mix – Liked the use of the props and use of stage. Dance routine was full of energy and well-rehearsed. Vocally just need to work on being a little tighter as when you were on point sounded sweet. There was too much uniform singing and vocals on the track were audible. Would have liked to have seen some originality too. Click here for advice on singing a creative cover.
Pinky – Must learn to keep control of the vocals, even when you’re under pressure. Click here for advice on having stage confidence as a singer. For large parts of the performance you were out of tune and forced the vocal. Click here for advice on how singing lessons can assist you in being even better. Liked you thought about your image and came up with something original.
Precious – Good tone. Song choice is very important and sometimes doing a ballad does kill the ability to be a little more individual. Click here for advice on choosing the right song and click here for advice on singing a creative cover. You have the ability but need to really work hard to push to the next level. I think the quality of your backing track was distracting to your overall performance.
S Jay – Great vocal range, and it was nice to hear an original song but you never got involved in the performance! Now you need to work on conveying the emotion of a song – click here for more information on emotionally connecting to a song. Going forward, you need to look to work on looking like you are enjoying it and engage with your audience. Commit more to the performance. Getting more performance experience will assist your confidence in doing this.
Sasha France – Nice sensitive song choice which was given a nice live feel with the guitar backing. Sasha has a strong voice which cut through nicely once she got over the initial nerves. Click here for advice on having stage confidence as a singer. You performed well, try and reach out to the guitarist as there was no engagement between you.
Tamara – Great costumes and props – so much thought went into this! Tamara should have looked to have got more involved in the routines as at times it did feel like you were unattached from everything that was going on. All the work went into the stage show and unfortunately the vocal did suffer slightly as a result, so now work on keeping your vocals at the same level as your performance and you’ll be on your way! Click here for advice on how singing lessons can assist you in being even better.
Theresa Delaney – Strong vocal delivery – it was her best controlled performance of the competition, but the song choice didn’t suit her range, especially on the low notes. Click here for advice on choosing the right song. Be careful to stay in time with the track but overall it was well-performed.
