The music industry judges providing vocal training feedback were:
The guest act performing at the Area Final was Jack Walton who took part in The X Factor last year.
Vocal Training: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the TeenStar competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.
Olivia McNeill – A super powerful voice sung with real conviction. The song suited your vocal well however really try and commit to the meaning of the song more in your performance. Look to use that stage more too to connect with your audience, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.
Amelia – Another good song choice one that we don’t hear much, which was great. Vocally watch your diction as it was hard to hear what you were saying at times. Performance wise you controlled the stage well, however try giving more expression and emotion in your eyes and facial expression, click here for facial expressions and gestures whilst singing. Going forward try and play with the dynamics more rather than just forcing the top end try and widen the range of the dynamics, click here for tips on music dynamics.
Rhiannon – A very focussed performance however it was a shame that you let the nerves get the better of you at times, click here for advice on how to overcome the nerves. Make sure you don’t emphasise any mistakes by bringing attention to them, just carry on as we might not even pick up on the mistake. Don’t forget to perform throughout your performance especially in the instrumental sections you need to give us something visually rather than be static, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.
Phoebe Goodburn – A good performance with nice use of the stage and interaction with the audience, however click here for when to or when not too ask for audience participation, would suggest maybe not to over rely on it as you did at times. Also look at the following article for more advice on the importance of song choice and good audition songs.
Belle – A very strong performance, you connected well emotionally to the song which helped us to connect with you as a performer. Just take care with your timing, don't get too ahead of yourself. Lovely voice, beautiful song and performance - it was very emotive which was great to see.
Phoebe Mullard – Great to hear you do an original song, it probably needs a little bit more structuring and working out the delivery to be even better, however it has a great hook. Click here for more on writing that memorable chorus. Nice vocals, but more development will make them even stronger.
Kiera Battersby – You are such a natural singer! Gorgeous vocal, you sung the song beautifully, however it would have been good to see you put your own modern twist on this song, click here for more on being creative with a cover. The more you perform the more your confidence will grow and you will be able to command the stage with your presence more.
Elena – You have super vocal control, however it would have been good to see you put your own modern twist on this song, click here for more on being creative with a cover. Better use of dynamics would have kept the interest going throughout too, click here for tips on music dynamics. Look to change the delivery of the chorus to avoid being too repetitive.
Savanna Caprice Lee – You have definitely improved from you Regional Final performance and you controlled the nerves more. You looked great and you have bags of ability just perform as much as you can so the nerves can be portrayed as emotion to the music, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.
Cam & Will – Nice sound and clear vocals however you would benefit from connecting with each other more on stage and adding more energy into your performance. You both need to use your eyes more to connect to the audience, click here for facial expressions and gestures whilst singing.
Shaniyah – You have a strong vocal, however you need to work on your breathing technique. Slow down and breathe, it seemed like you were rushing rather than focusing on the delivery and punching out the notes. Once you got going you had a lot of power and control but you lost that initial impact you could have achieved.
Melissa severn – Just wonderful! Your lyrics are like velvet chocolate. Your delivery and timing was spot on just don;t push the vocals too hard. An impressive performance, well done!
Amy – You have a lovely vocal tone but it wasn’t clear what the lyrics were and thus we didn't really understand the message in the song. Try working on your diction so we can hear the lyrics more, click here for tips on singing diction.
Daniel McVey – Liked you made the song your own, click here for more on being creative with a cover. Use the energy of the song to command the stage more. Better dynamics could have built the performance to a climatic ending too, click here for tips on music dynamics. You have a great vocal just becareful not to over force it and end up shouting instead of projecting.
Olli Ingall – You have such a different vocal that will appeal to a lot of people. More development of your vocals with a good vocal coach will help you to be even stronger. Your eye contact and engagement to the audience could be developed to be used to gain a better connection to your performance too, click here for facial expressions and gestures whilst singing.
Mayah Lewis – Saved the best until last! You have an excellent voice, just gorgeous. You look cool and the violin really set a lovely tone. Your diction and expression was fantastic. Super talented!!!
