Kassidy - Brave register to open – but low notes well placed and held. Secure delivery overall, needing an edge to compete. The song choice wasn’t right for you, click here for more on good audition songs. I’m sure there is more here than we saw.
Antonia - Liked the voice, with individual expression / phrasing adding a bit of colour. Make use of the whole stage, that’s what it’s there for, click here for stage performance tips. There needs to be more of a synergy between your vocals and your style, click here for music synergy and image. Good vocals though.
Emily - Composed, well projected, and image largely suited style. Song choice worked for you and you did justice to the song. Nice dynamic contrast today. Well done.
Joseph Sant - Nice voice, smooth. Your next step is to work on overall presentation, stage craft and finding your style. The foundation is taking shape. Take advice to become more commercial - some potential here.
Balram Rathour - You have a voice Balram, interesting song choice to demonstrate it, but secure guitar work and the interpretation was individual. Have a think about your style you are trying to capture, click here for music synergy and image. Definitely something there.
Harriett Boardman-White - Sultry, projected, shaped phrases, stylistic and image worked for you. Still needs an edge but I liked this.
Charlotte Boyd - Liked the song choice, strong voice, good breathing, although there was a tiny loss of tone control in chorus. Moments where voice and accompaniment were not exact and not sure about the guitar solo. Watch plosive consonants also.
Zara - Lovely image, projection was effective and you were vocally secure. Aim now to work on stage confidence, including using the stage and connecting with audience more. This will come with experience. Watch your mic control as some of the vocal is lost, click here for microphone techniques.
Luis Sullivan - Great introduction and good up-tempo intro. You set the tone very well. I like your attention to maintain eye contact with the audience whilst both singing and playing - much harder than it looks. You need to give thought to the commercial angle, including image on stage, click here for music synergy and image. Liked the song.
Emily - Very good Emily. Lovely vocal, and you held your nerve well. With more experience you will develop a bigger stage presence which your voice deserves, click here for ways to improve stage presence. Make sure transitions are perfect.
Distinct - Interesting idea – enjoyed the interpretation. Keep at it guys – there is scope for more use of stage, image as a foursome and how you present, but some promise here, click here for tips on singing groups.
Alex K - Good image, liked the song and the guitar work was good. Vocals had positive / technically secure aspects, with room for softening and polishing. Definitely keep at it.
Miles - Conveyed an emotional song with commitment and vocals suited the style. Head voice slightly tentative. Use of held mic added a convincing element, giving freedom to be more expressive. Don't forget though, there is a big stage there to use, click here for stage performance tips.
Cadi Edwards - Good composition, slightly angst-ridden but conveyed well in this mood. Aim to hold continuity in/out of middle 8 part, but secure vocals and good story telling diction.
Nicole - You were prepared, gave attention to image, performed well, and the song was suited to your voice. Lovely vibrato, particularly effective in quieter held notes.
Beth and Amelia - Good contrast within the song, brave cue to open (almost instant), thought given to stage craft and engagement with audience was good. Not sure about image between the two of you, but the communication between the two of you was generally convincing. Try to develop this. Click here for tips on singing groups.
Leah Haworth - An enjoyable act. Pleasant, good audience participation, vocally secure, click here for advice on audience participation. Have a think about image and how you can achieve an edge in this style, click here for music synergy and image.
Jasmine Gloster - Well-communicated musical intensification, nice vocal, with scope for greater contrast in dynamic shape. Great guitar touches.
Alex Rose - Effective shaping to the phrasing, with some excellent moments in projection. Considered song choice. Make sure you are committed to a style and present song and self to build on some very good technical foundation.
Livvy K - Good use of stage, great tone and control, lovely image. Very good communication. Commercial potential here…..
Scott - You settled into the song and gave a big finish! Aim to convey the powerful lyrics with more conviction on a bigger stage, and room for technical polish. Good attempt Scott.
Harriet Alexander - Expressive delivery, polished and image complemented the package. Watch mic technique (consider holding to help inadvertent noise), click here for microphone techniques. Also try to use the full extent of stage, but very good. Well done.
Effi Nicki - Confident and well delivered. Vocally strong technique helped the performance. Scored well across the judges – good luck in the next round.
Lois Keavey - Great voice, comfortable delivery, confident and convincing body language. Aim to still use more of the stage and give thought to image in this style. A secure opening act.
Emma Nicholson - Interesting opening with empty clicks, not sure this set the correct tone, but you settled into very good vocal delivery with shape and individual colour. Great contrast with percussive parts. Well done.
Hannah Nicole George - Pleasant, easy listening, nice story telling style. Lovely voice and image. Might need a more commercial edge Hannah, but you are good at what you do.
Rosie Thomson - Low register well handled, attention given to image and your delivery was confident. Scope for greater use of stage, click here for stage performance tips.
Abi White - Liked the delivery and song choice, although was waiting for a show stopping contrast in tone and projection in chorus – opportunity lost here. (Nice touch of musical pathos!)
Kara Mae - Technically strong, image suited the track and genre, use of stage allowed us to be more convinced. Have a think about what to do in the non-vocal parts. Great ending – polished and prepared here.
Ashleigh Taleb - Comfortable performance, with expression and individuality in vocal colour. Give thought to the wider commercial aspects - it was difficult to pinpoint a style. Not sure image worked but potential here, click here for music synergy and image.
Joseph Dunne - Liked the vocal clarity and lyric. You sing a good story. Nicely articulated even. I think greater connection / eye contact with the audience would help overall communication, click here for engaging the audience.
Georgia - Numerous positive elements (vocal / technical security, you used the stage and made clear efforts to engage). I’m sure with advice there is more to you Georgia, something did not quite work for me, maybe timing of leading notes, maybe song choice, perhaps image.
Gina - Comfortable. Liked the original track, but I think you could have been more suited to a piece with more variation and contrast to demonstrate range / tone shifts. Would want to see you again.
Flame Elation - Well prepared and like the blending. As a duo you need to be making a clear statement as to style and identify – this was not obvious. Vocally secure though. I think this could develop as an act.
North West England & Scotland Area Final - Sunday 24th May Royal Northern College of Music Opera Theatre, 124 Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9RD.
