Nicole Mitchell - Always hard to open the show! Composed, body language helped to paint the words – well done here. Watch plosive consonants into the mic, click here for microphone techniques. Took time to settle into full tone control, but promise evident here.
Camilla Disano - Brave pace, well managed, expressive voice capturing mood. Your image suited the performance well. Consider greater range and dynamics shaping plus there was room for greater stagecraft, even at this young age. Numerous qualities here.
Alicia Pollard - Nice idea to call and respond with backing track. More nice colouring of lyrics, and intensification added character. Some slips in tone control, but well attempted.
Rita Fernanda - Great voice at this age. Not all intervallic and pitching was exact, but timing, placement and sustained notes held with confidence. Would like to see you again after more experience. Well done to deal with the technical issue.
Yna - Immediately captivating tone and use of projection / shape. Song choice suited you. Have the confidence to take more ownership of the stage, but will be unlucky not to go through today. (Split the judges)
Lara Harding - Lovely rhythmic shape, timing and phrasing. Warm tones. Intonation not always secure unfortunately. Many promising areas Lara - keep at it.
Anna - Great individual colour and projection. Try and define your style and present with an image to suit, even at this young age. You also need to manage lengthier non-vocal parts. This detracted slightly, but one to watch….
Macy Page - Settled into the delivery, good song choice, some nice expressive and percussive touches….Try to develop more individual interpretation.
Aisha - Great image and composure, polished ending. Vocally secure with personality in abundance. Aim to use more of the stage, click here for stage performance tips.
Tallulah Pani - Attention to material, image and presentation. Very good accompaniment (tone, patch and melody touches). Musical and well prepared – be confident to use the mic and stage though, click here for stage performance tips and microphone techniques. Well done.
Sparkle and Shine - A considered act, complete with a great name which suits the style! Excellent presence when not singing, beginnings of use of stage – try to develop this, click here for stage performance tips. Vocally blending needs work, but technically secure. Keep working on both vocal training and your act as a duo. Very promising…
Adelaide - The next Kate Bush! Effective and captivating. Really liked the song, liked the sparse accompaniment placing the focus in the right places. Well done for giving so much through to image, give consideration to whether it suits your genre.
Ashleigh - What confidence! Very well prepared, used the stage like a pro! Vocally secure. Have a think about mic technique, and keep gaining your experience at every opportunity, click here for microphone techniques. One to watch.
Ryan - Loved it. Good voice, held the mood of the piece maturely. Real potential with tone and individuality.
Penny Henson - Lovely control, projection added depth. Light staccato could be just slightly gentler for greater contrast, but good vocal delivery. Watch plosive consonants into the mic and use of stage.
Lara Lamont - Liked the articulation, use of shape in phrases, composure and maturity. You also portrayed the mood. Pitch accuracy could be more exact in places, but good promise here.
Harry Hodgson - You clearly enjoy the style, which suited your image and you performed with confidence. Technically strong too. Really enjoyed it!
Sam Horton - Distinctive style, high standard of technical content at this age, albeit with an occasionally less well controlled sustained note, but a very good vocal delivery. Would prefer to see more stage craft – have a think about overall presentation.
Amy Chester - Nice phrasing, nearly consistent descending movement initially, well communicated. Lovely natural vibrato, intensification was effective. Might need an edge though, perhaps a more clearly defined style, click here for music synergy and image.
Paris Brown - Wow. I think that’s all I want to say. The future is right here. Be careful the material does not stray too far from your youthful age.
Freya Kelly - Like the bass and vocals thing! Watch breathing slips, but moody and interesting, click here for breathing exercises for singing. Great image and technically secure, although quite notable plosive consonants detracted.
Ashley Lall - Fantastic attention to the song as a stage package. I think there is much potential here, albeit with scope at the moment for greater vocal training, click here for the importance of vocal training. Keep at it.
Eliza Mai - Great vocals, blending, image and clear commercial promise here. Not sure about the accompaniment, particularly initially. Give thought to a band or other musical support. Very good though.
North West England & Scotland Area Final - Sunday 24th May Royal Northern College of Music Opera Theatre, 124 Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9RD.
