Katie Louise – It’s definitely right to perform you own original, but of course we are then judging your song as well as your performance which means it either really works well for you or not. The song has potential, but could look to develop the dynamics to drive through the chorus click here for more on music dynamics. Click here for more on facial expression and gestures whilst singing also. Like the sound of your guitar! Don’t forget to smile whilst you’re performing! Let us know that you’re enjoying yourself.
Anastasia – Your entrance to the stage was very professional which set a good tone from the start. You could tell you’d worked through the routine with meticulous planning. Good to see you made the cover your own. Strong vocal with attractive, husky tones. The backing was slightly overbearing, click here for tips on music backing tracks, however the song choice really suits your vocal!
Tia J – Great to see you perform and work the stage, now commit even more to the performance. Make sure your facial expression is also conveying appropriate expression smile and show joy as well as other emotions, click here for more on facial expression and gestures whilst singing. Vocally, it was a little pitchy at times so look to work with a good vocal coach to be even better, click here for information about vocal coaches at River Studios. Great image though! The rap was good, but be careful with your diction, especially on the higher notes, we still need to able to hear what you’re singing, click here for singing diction.
Aidan & Harry – You've got to watch your mic control as your projection through the mic is inconsistent as a consequence, click here for more on microphone techniques. Great to see you doing a mash up, but ideally you want it to more seemless rather than the patching of two songs together, so it flows well and is almost unnoticeable, click here for creating a music mashup. You are a great vocalist though and it was a very original performance.
Matlinda – You looked very nervy and expression wise in pain, more performance will assist you to build the confidence. Look to perform as much as you can, click here for more on music events. Also the more you practice the more likely it is you won’t forget the lyrics and your timing will be tighter too. Timing seemed to be an issue. The song choice just didn’t seem to be the right one for your vocal, click here for good audition songs.
Charley-Lauren – Powerful voice! You have loads of ability but steer clear from iconic songs we’ve heard so many times as you will always come off second best to the original artist, click here for tips on good audition songs. Also make sure you give equal commitment to all the notes and make them clear, click here for more on singing diction. Remember to take the mic off the stand, work the stage and perform to the end, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers. Vocally just take care with your timing. You’ve got potential, use that to build your confidence.
Lauren Spencer – It’s definitely right to perform you own original, but of course we are then judging your song as well as your performance which means it either really works well for you or not. The song has real potential but you could look to develop the dynamics even more to drive through the chorus, click here for more on music dynamics. Click here for more on facial expression and gestures whilst singing also which will help convey more emotion in the performance not just harshness and pain. Image wise think about what you are wearing and whether it represents you as an artist, click here for the importance of music synergy and image. That aside it was one of the best performances of the day. You sound incredibly similar to Ellie Goulding.
Abbey – Good song choice, it suited your vocal and you connected with it emotionally. Going forward try and be as original as you can so we can see you as an artist click here for more on how to do music covers. You used the dynamics well to drive through the message of the song. Lovely vocal control together with the dynamics made it a very confident and polished performance well done! You showed a great connection to the lyrics, it was captivating.
Rhea – You have a crystal clear tone, but you need to work the dynamics more to drive through the message in the song. It’s definitely right to perform your own original, but of course we are then judging your song as well as your performance which means it either really works well for you or not. The song has potential but you could look to develop the dynamics even more to drive through the chorus, click here for more on music dynamics. Well done for playing as well as singing, that can sometimes be difficult, click here for performing with musical keyboards.
Olivia Haggarty – You would really help your projection if you got closer to the mic, click here for more on microphone techniques. You have good vocal control and it was a good choice of song as it forced you to sing it differently as it's normally a male lead, click here for the importance of good audition songs for performances! Excellent voice and a beautifully controlled performance. Try to consider your image more for the next round, make sure there’s a synergy between your performance and your look, and click here for advice on music synergy and image.
Rachel Ann – This girl is on a different level today! The control, power and dynamics are top notch. Interesting take on a La Roux song. You’re a unique performer; you worked well with the keyboard which can often be difficult. Be careful with your diction so that we can capture every word, click here for singing diction. An amazing performance, well done!
Katie Wilson – Good attitude and presence from the start. Microphone technique and inexperience let you down a little, you need to keep the mic near your mouth throughout otherwise you lose your projection, click here for more on microphone techniques. A little more practice with your transition with your voices, but other than that a much improved performance from the Regional Final. Lots of personality in this performance, well done.
Olivia Davies – Super vocal control, but we'd like to see you bring something different to the song and performance from the original, click here for more on how to do music covers. It’s a massive song and it needs a little more commitment to the vocal change up, click here for good audition songs for your performance.
Jade Middleton – Your face is your pallet to convey the emotion in the song and you aren’t given enough, click here for more on facial expression and gestures whilst singing. Bringing emotion to the performance is even more important when you are sat down and playing, click here for how to sing with emotion. Lovely to hear a stripped back vocal and guitar, showing us you can really sing and deliver a strong performance.
Francesca – You can see you have power under the bonnet. Liked your interpretation to make it your own, click here for more on how to do music covers. Really good song choice to show off your vocal ability.
Nicole – Your face is your pallet to convey the emotion in the song and you aren’t giving enough, cick here for more on facial expression and gestures whilst singing, which is even more important when you are playing guitar. Look to develop the dynamics even more to drive through the chorus, click here for more on music dynamics. You improved as the song went on.
Lois Howard-Walsh – You are conveying emotion, but don’t neglect to give more dynamic range to the emotional impressions like euphoric “the line you brought at the best of me” isn’t painful is it? Click here for more on facial expression and gestures whilst singing. A very confident performance, you would be good for festivals.
Morgan – Your singing has come on leaps and bounds! You need to use your eyes to greater effect as that conveys the emotion and don’t forget to use that stage to connect even more to the audience, click here for stage performance tips for singers. It's a difficult song to sing, but you did a good job! Really liked your style! A very mature voice with so much power. Wow, just wow!
Tom Piner – It’s definitely right to perform your own original, but of course we are then judging your song as well as your performance which means it either really works well for you or not. The song has potential but you could look to develop the dynamics even more to drive through the chorus, click here for more on music dynamics. Perhaps due to nerves you were a little pitchy at the start, more performances will help to build your confidence. Your songwriting is good, but it felt like it had a few too many stops. Keep writing though!
Dan Francis – Ideally you should now be looking to write your own songs as you will be judged on your ability of your songwriting and that’s the more likely chance to get signed. Perhaps look to get on a songwriting development course at River Studios. Don’t forget to perform as well as sing, move around and make use of the whole stage, click here for stage performance tips for singers.
